Lean Manufacturing

As anyone will tell you, the healthiest cuts of meat are those which have little or no fat. While some may like the taste of a little fat, few will disagree that in the long run it is bad for you. All that fat helps clog the arteries, and if continued for long enough will lead to a body that will struggle to achieve its maximum potential, and can lead to a reduced life expectancy. So what will the doctor say when you arrive in his office? He’ll tell you to cut out the fat and exercise!

And so it is with manufacturing. All that fat that accumulates in process as time goes by and plants evolve and grow will leads to a process that will never reach its full potential, and may in fact be harming itself. And as the doctor recommends cutting out fat and increased focus on exercise, so will we encourage Lean Manufacturing.

Lean Manufacturing is all about removing fat, or waste, from your process to help you optimise efficiency, and maximise profit. Lean Manufacturing isn’t a one off pill you take that will solve all your problems forever. It is a mentality. It is changing your mind set, and the mind sets of those in your business.

Lean Manufacturing aims to identify the parts of your process that do not add value, and eliminate them in so far as is possible. It aims to allow you to do more with less.

“An environment where people have to think brings with it wisdom, and this wisdom brings with it kaizen [continuous improvement]”
